The Fosshotel Reykholt Hotel is surrounded by good walking country, with trails beginning 100 metres from the hotel. Places of interest include the waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss and the hot spring of Deildartunguhver, all within twenty kilometres. The nearest airport is Keflavik Airport, 200 kilometres from the hotel, which is reachable by bus or taxi. Reykholt was home of Snorri Sturluson, Iceland's greatest Saga writer, poet and historian. Today, Reykholt is still one of Iceland's ain historical and cultural sites. Here you will find two beautiful churches, Snorri's natural hot pool, Snorralaug, Heimskringla and Snorrastofa, an exhibit of Snorri's writings and a research centre for medieval studies. In the park is a statue of Snorri by the Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland. Archaeological excavations are carried out on site by the National Museum of Iceland. Just a few minutes drive from Reykholt are the waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, Europe's most powerful hot spring, Deildatunguhver, and several lava tubes and caves. Snow mobile tours are available on the glacier Langjökull.
